My name is Brandy McCoid, and I am passionate about helping Christians walk their health journey in the freedom won for them by Christ. I am an ACE certified personal trainer and health coach. I also have a masters in theology from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.
I am mom to four amazing kids, and wife to a wonderful man, who’s also my pastor. I live out a vibrant faith in Jesus, love to be active, and prioritize listening to and meeting my body’s needs.
I haven’t always been tuned into my needs. In loving others, I sometimes forgot to care for myself. I have said yes when I already felt overwhelmed with stress. I have skipped meals because I was “too busy” to stop and eat. And forget about working out because I was just too tired. I have even put off going to the bathroom because I didn’t want to interrupt a long story from a friend!
I thought my needs could wait; but my needs didn’t stop – they just got louder, along with a growing resentment. I tried to quiet my frustrations and tiredness with cookies and donuts, or a couple glasses of wine at night to help me unwind. I didn’t know how I could continue to meet the daily demands of my life when I felt so emotionally, physically, and spiritually exhausted.
I thought maybe I just needed to pray more, or read the bible to find the rest and health my body demanded. While stepping into God’s presence gave me hope in Christ, my mindset and body didn’t feel any better. I didn’t realize God was prompting me to listen to my body that was crying out for rest. Listen, and explore health habits that would make a difference.
So I started with one small change – one small habit led to more that began to awaken wellness in my weary body. I started listening to my needs, and honoring my body as God’s temple. I began practicing health habits that rejuvenated me in mind and body. I cared for myself as I cared for those around me.
What resulted was incredible – I began loving from a place of abundance, instead of scarcity. I had more energy and contentment in my life than I had before.
In loving myself, I loved others more fully.
Bethel Wellness was born from the belief that God has called us to care for our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit. When we are managing our health, we are energized to love others more fully. You can find time to be active, eat with more intention, get your stress under control, sleep more restfully, instill better discipleship habits, wrangle unhelpful thoughts, or any other wellness goal that is tugging at your heart.
The question is, where do you want to start?
